How to Measure Your Body Correctly: A Step-by-Step Guide
Dear Ladies,
Accurately measuring your body is key to ensuring a perfect fit for your clothing. The following steps will guide you in obtaining precise measurements. However, if you're even slightly unsure about whether you've measured yourself correctly, don't hesitate to contact me. We can arrange an online meeting where I'll assist you in double-checking your measurements. With accurate measurements and correctly recorded sizes, we can avoid many potential issues and meet your expectations perfectly.
To measure correctly, you'll need a tailor's measuring tape, a simple string, and a mirror to ensure the tape is straight. When measuring, wear only light clothing or underwear to prevent distorted measurements. The tape should be snug but not so tight that it digs into the skin. Always ensure the tape is level and measure multiple times for accuracy. 😊
Height (H) – This is the actual height of your body, measured from the top of your head to the floor.
Bust Circumference (BC)
If you're measuring yourself, place the tape measure across your shoulder blades and guide it over the fullest part of your bust. The tape should touch at the highest point of your chest. If someone else is measuring you, the tape can be measured from front to back or from the side. Always check that the tape is level.
Waist Circumference (WC) – The waist is located at the narrowest part of your torso, just above the navel. To find your waist more easily, tie a simple string around it; it should naturally rest at this narrowest point. If you're measuring yourself, guide the tape from your back and bring it together at the front. If someone else is measuring you, the tape can be measured from front to back or from the side. Never suck in your stomach—stand naturally. And once again, ensure the tape is level.
Hip Circumference (HC) – If you're measuring yourself, stand sideways in front of a mirror and guide the tape measure around the fullest part of your hips. Make sure the tape is level. If you have a prominent belly, adjust the tape to match the level of your belly's fullest point. It's important not to ignore the belly when measuring. When choosing clothing, it's better to have slightly larger measurements to ensure a comfortable fit.
Sleeve Length (SL) – If possible, ask someone to help you measure your sleeve length, but if that's not an option, you can do it yourself too—it's manageable! :) Stand upright and find the highest point of your shoulder, where it connects to your arm. Hold the tape measure there, slightly bend your arm at the elbow, and guide the tape over the elbow to the wrist joint (as shown in the diagram, marked in red). For jackets, you can extend the tape to the back of your hand, depending on where you want the sleeve to end. Just like pant or skirt length, sleeve length depends on the specific design of the garment.
Pants/Skirt Length – The length of pants or skirts is always measured along the side, starting from the waist (the narrowest part of your torso). The length is determined based on the design and what looks best. Each product description includes details about where the specific style of pants or skirt should ideally reach. Always measure the length along the side of your leg.
